ALZ Advocacy Day @ MA State House

Mary & Edith at the MA State House, Front Steps, 5/11/2016
- Massachusetts Alzheimer’s Project Act (S.1196/H.2057)
- Alzheimer’s Public Awareness Campaign
- Continuing Medical Education for Physicians (H.3384)
- Alzheimer’s Care Training for Elder Protective Services Workers (S.360/H.516)
We also tracked down our local representatives (Topsfield) in the house, and spoke with their aides about the burning issues needing attention now. I invited the reps and aides to come and see our dementia-care ministry (wheelchair accessible gardens, Memory Café 1x/mo, and more) at our home-based Respite Retreat Center, Rest.Stop.Ranch.
Thanks to all who organized the event today at the MA State House. I hope that whoever is championing top needs for families impacted by ALZ/Dementia, is also working at the state-house level to create a caregiver stipend for family caregivers who are forced out of the workforce to manage the care of a loved one with dementia (as I was in 2007), losing paycheck, retirement benefits, and drawing savings down to nil.
Take Action! If you live in the U.S.A., I encourage you to know your state representative and senator for your town/local area. Make a point to meet them — Share your story and the legislative priorities burning in your heart.
