Major Heart Surgery on Myself: 10 of 43 Days
Categories: Contemplation in Action, Reflection, Survivor's Mission, Trauma Recovery & Renewal
After four straight days of organizing I feel wiped-out physically, mentally, and emotionally. The process of clearing boxes in our basement stored from traumatic years of my life (2007, 2008, and 2009) has felt like I am both the patient suffering an invasion-of-body as well as the doctor making the decisions/incisions. We reached a major milestone today in our project: Every box in the targeted basement storage area has been opened and acted upon.
Boxes have been:
- completely unpacked, sorted, and contents grouped with like items for integration into the home or directly integrated into home; boxes recycled
- completely unpacked, sorted, and contents donated; boxes recycled
- opened and meta-labeled; labeled boxes moved to consolidated storage areas for future sorting
- opened, decided to be moved to a more appropriate area of the home for storage
The 2007-2009 trauma-related boxes are stored together on shelving #1 and palettes. I placed a Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook with the trauma boxes for a bit of humor, as FTD caregiving was a worst-case scenario for me.
Additional meta-categories are stored on shelving unit #2: kitchen appliances, home decor, medical equipment…
The major movements happening on my home’s roots-level are corresponding with clearing in my heart and mind, as if I’m routing the bad cholesterol and plaque from my arteries and brain.
Moving forward with a listening heart,
vision, inquiry, and action,
~ Mary
